Pillar 1 · Basic needs

Securing basic needs

As an association, we are committed to enabling young people in the Ashanti region of Ghana to lead a self-determined life and break the cycle of poverty in the long term. Our greatest concern is to ensure that no dependencies are created. We want to help people to help themselves in order to promote improved living conditions without cultural change.

We found that basic needs such as food, clean drinking water and medical care are not met in all parts of the country, including Lake Bosomtwe. Many people in Ghana, especially in rural areas, are affected by unbalanced and inadequate nutrition.

Due to a lack of access to basic foodstuffs, sometimes for months at a time, both time and financial resources have to be spent on clean drinking water, for example, which are actually urgently needed in other areas. For example, people in the Ashanti region may have to walk 3 km to the nearest well.

Securing basic needs gives young people and children the freedom to develop. It lays the foundation for subsequent projects and is the prerequisite for genuine interest and enthusiasm for education of any kind. As an association, we want to tackle this task step by step and support the region. With a healthy foundation, every individual can devote energy to the other areas of life more effectively and in a more targeted manner.
