Ongoing maintenance of the well

Ongoing maintenance of the well

In the village of Esaase, the residents generally draw their fresh water from three wells. During our first visit to the village, however, we discovered that one of the wells had been out of service for almost two years due to a faulty pumping mechanism.

As the municipality was unable to find the funds to repair it, the remaining two wells had to cover the water needs of the over 1800 inhabitants. As a result, some of the villagers were forced to walk up to three kilometers for fresh water.

The village leaders approached us and together we worked out a solution. A technician was called to inspect the well, identify the fault and we received an estimate for the repair.

As we did not yet have the status of a registered charity at this point, our board member Yaw Heiser then launched a survey among his circle of acquaintances and found a family from Wiesbaden who were willing to cover the costs.

Yaw explained to the family how they could send the money to Ghana via an app at the best possible exchange rate. With the money received, the technician procured the necessary spare parts, repaired the well and was paid for his services.

For a while, the village had access to fresh water again. Although the well was repaired, another defect occurred because another part had come loose. This time, however, the costs were manageable, so the community was able to finance the repair itself to ensure continued access to drinkable water.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for your support!
